Union County Neighbors Community

Neighborly Notes September 2, 2009
In This Issue

AcornsHere it is, September again.

Over the weekend I was sitting on my back porch admiring the carpet of leaves in my neighbors yard, and enjoying the cooler weather when *clunk* I got hit in the head with an acorn.

There's no denying it, Autumn is on its way. We're just a few months away from Christmas already. (Just 119 shopping days left folks!)

I just don't know how time goes by so quickly!

So I'm thinking ahead toward the holidays, and different ways we could come together as a community to support the less fortunate in our area for the Christmas season. We'd love to hear your ideas - whether it's a local organization or even a local family that could benefit from the support of Union County Neighbors and our members!

If you'd like to nominate a cause or family, stop by our forum and leave the information on this discussion:

Matthews Alive LogoSo it's not in Union County, but c'mon, admit it - summer just isn't summer if you don't end it with Labor Day weekend at Stumptown Park in Matthews for the Matthews Alive Festival!

Four days of rides, games, entertainment, great food, arts, crafts, and a spirit of community define the annual festivities in Historic Matthews - and to top it off, it's all about supporting nearly two dozen charitable organizations like Habitat for Humanity, Matthews area school clubs, The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts, and the Shriners.

They've been doing it for 17 years now, so we locals are familiar with the fun that Matthews Alive has to offer, but if you're new to the area, everything you could possibly want to know about Matthews Alive is on their website . You'll find a list of entertainers, and attractions, as well as the full schedule. There's even a map to help you find your way around.

Hope we'll see you there!
