Weighed in With Your Opinion About A Union County Meet-Up?

There's nothing like the smell of crayons and desk cleaner is there? In just a few weeks, all the area kids will be back in school with new little backpacks stuffed with crayons and paper, wearing their shiney new shoes... Or will they?

Thanks to poverty, hundreds, if not thousands, of children across our area have to go back to school without the supplies they need to receive a good education. When Mom and Dad can't afford to check everything off those supply lists, it's the children who suffer.

The Union County Department of Social Services needs your help -- you can support local needy children by donating supplies, uniforms, or monetary donations. The need is far outweighing the amount of supplies that are being donated this year because of the present economic situation and sky-rocketing unemployment rate, but there is still time to help before the traditional school year starts.

If you wish to donate, please send checks payable to Union County DSS-Donation Fund to Gloria Haney (704-296-4312) at Union County DSS, 1212 W. Roosevelt Blvd., Monroe, NC 28110. In the notation on the check, write for school uniforms or supplies.

You can also donate supplies and clothing by calling the office of your local school.

Sincerely
Scott & Erin
Union County Neighbors

The Coffee TableScott and I are coffee junkies so our ears perk up any time we hear about a new coffee shop opening up in the area. When John LaTour joined the Union County Neighbors community and announced the upcoming opening of The Coffee Table, well, let's just say there's been lots of conversation about their grand opening ever since John signed up.

We signed up for their newsletter so we could stay informed on their progress, and received notice on Monday that Wednesday (today) was their official opening date! We also visited their site and saw that they have daily specials, and live music on select nights. You can check all that out by visiting WesleyChapelCoffee.com.

Coffee Table Sitting AreaWhen we walked in this morning, John (the owner) says to me, "You're Erin!" What a nice welcome. I didn't expect him to recognize me!

It didn't seem like the yucky weather was affecting them one bit either, spirits were high, and there was a steady stream of customers, which made me very happy. The first day a business opens can be rough if no one shows up, but that wasn't a problem at The Coffee Table. The lattes and milkshakes were really good, and the fresh chocolate muffins were incredible. Plus, the place is beautiful!

Jamie KlouseI was also just awestruck by some of the paintings on the walls. Local artist Jamie Klouse has some gorgeous work exibited there, as well as other local artists. There are also handmade soy candles by Susan Benz from Classic Wicks - they smell heavenly too. It's obvious that John and Melissa have a commitment to their community, they even serve ice cream from Tony's, a local ice cream company. You guys know that supporting people in our area always wins points with me -- it's what keeps our county strong, and The Coffee Table is going to be a real asset to Wesley Chapel and the residents in the area.

Thanks again John and Melissa, and the rest of the crew at The Coffee Table too-- and best of luck, you'll definitely be seeing us again!
